LATCH Install on drivers side rear bench

Question for the community since GM didn't have an answer. Kid number 2 is on the way and when I went to look at the LATCH attachment on the 2nd row, drivers side there wasn't one. It exists on the passenger side and center but not drivers. It has a top anchor (back of seat) for all 3 positions but it's missing the lower anchor on the drivers side. The question is if anyone knows if this can be installed and/or why it doesn't exist. It's the same for all the other Yukon's I've looked at.

Bizarre but I have to imagine GM had a good reason for this, or it could be their version of birth control.

Isn't that weird?? Thankfully I have captain seat second row so it doesn't affect me but when I read the manual (yea I was so excited to be a new owner I read the entire thing) I remember seeing that only the passenger side and middle seat have LATCH points. I attached a pic from the manual below. I don't get it either and honestly have never seen it in any of my SUVs (Honda, Lincoln, Mazda). Would love to know their thoughts.

Very strange. I just checked the 2nd row bench in my Denali and same thing. I cannot imagine why.

Same thing on my avalanche. Weird thing is that it's on the drivers and passenger side of my brother's silverado - nothing in the center. Not sure why they wouldn't put it on every seat. Putting them on the ends don't make sense because then you'd have to crawl over a car seat to get someone in there.

Shaun, I have the same strange setup on my 2nd row bench. I'm totally dumbstruck as to the logic behind omitting the latch points on the driver side, wish I had an answer for you. But I do have a suggestion. Given the setup, I secured one of the car seats using the latch anchor points, and the remaining seat was secured using the seat belt & the top latch anchor point. Let us what you end up doing.

I'm probably going to have to do the same thing you talked about, use the lower anchors and the seat belt. Certainly don't think its as safe but it's better than selling the vehicle I suppose.

I did talk to one service manager who mentioned that GM did this to keep from having large child seats (assume rear facing) interfere with a drivers ability to adjust the seat to his or her needs (ie: all the way back). Sounds like it could make sense but why only the Yukon? The Acadia has them all the way across as do many other GM products. Maybe that should tell them to give us more leg room in the back. :)

Regardless, I'll just do what I need to do to secure that seat and always be left wondering why.

My service manager drives an '09 Tahoe and has 2 children in car seats. So he had a personal interest in why GM doesn't offer the LATCH base hardware behind the driver's seat. He couldn't get an answer from anyone other than "it's the way the engineers designed it."
