Bloody hell.
My wife have had some problems getting the Yukon started during the winter, yes, it has been quite cold here for some months now.
Last time I put gasoline into the car was 15 of January, this vehicle starts on regular gasoline and when the running temperature gets to 80 C it switches over to propan gas automatically. A couple of weeks ago my wife complained about the starting problems, she got " reduced power" and " check engine oil pressure" indications in addition to max 10 mph at full speed.
Clever that I am, I assumed that condensation had taken place in the gas tank, ala water in the fuel.
Still quite clever I thought that I would run the gastank dry and switch over to propan as the car would give me the first indications of fuelstarvation.
Clever that I am.
Well, as it turns out, I'm on my way to work driving along the highway talking to my uncle on the phone when the bloody car just stops without warning, I'm close to emty on the tank indicator but still no "low fuel" warning. Between my phonecall and switching to propan I lost out. The car stops dead.
I had to get i towed to a shop, the closest one is called Autonova and is just down the road from where I live.
They have a good repairstation but a complete ripoff partsdepartement.
The problem turned out to be the fuel pump.
As it is with these cars, less than half tank of gas and the pump is running almost dry and lifespan is reduced.
They called me and infomed me about the problem and prices for the job.
Labor turns out to be 1000 usd. For pump they charged another 1200 usd, a grand total of 2200 usd. I had some doubts but told them to go ahead.
Then I got cold feet and started to investigate prices in the US. It turns out the pump is 250 USD at most dealers in the US.
I called the shop the day after to cancel my order to no avail, I got ******.
At least the car runs as it supposed to.
The moral of my story is to never let the gasgauge get below halfway or You might be in trouble before You know it.
Bloody hell.
