'03 Yukon 5.3 Line indicating PRND123 Lags or disappears

First off, I've been lurking for a few months and appreciate the info. I've diagnosed and had replaced my steering shaft and manifold gasket as a result of the info here.

I've got an '03 Yukon 5.3 2WD 99K miles. Live in Texas and we've had our version of winter over the last week. After some driving in the frozen stuff, I've noticed that when I select reverse, drive etc after start up or to park after driving, the little line in the indicator gets hung up in the wrong spot for a while or disappears all together. The transmission is going to the mode that agrees with the shift lever position, and it works as it should. However the little line that indicates which mode is selected is either in the wrong spot or missing at times. This must tie into the door locks etc as they don't do the auto thing unless I wait a little bit for the indicator to catch up with what's been selected.

I've searched as best I know how and can't find this particular problem. Is this road grime that maybe got into something underneath with linkage, or is this something internal to the shifter on the column?

Sounds like you need to adjust the Park-Neutral-Position switch.

Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment

Important:
The following procedure is for vehicles that have not had the park/neutral position (PNP) switch removed or replaced. If the PNP switch has been removed or replaced, refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement4 for the proper adjustment procedure.
Apply the park brake.
The engine must start in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions only.
Check the PNP switch for proper operation. If adjustment is required' proceed as follows.
Place the transmission range selector in the neutral (N) position.
With an assistant in the drivers seat, raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting
Loosen the park/neutral position (PNP) switch bolts.
With the vehicle in the neutral (N) position, rotate the switch while the assistant attempts to start the engine.
Following a successful start, turn the engine off.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the PNP switch bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) .
Lower the vehicle.
Check the PNP switch for proper operation. The engine must start in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions only.
Replace the PNP switch if proper operation can not be achieved. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement.

Thanks. I'll look into that. Another odd symptom is when I parking and the indicator gets stuck at reverse, if I shut off the ignition and then turn it back to the ACC position the line pops over to park and then of course the doors unlock/reverse lights go out etc.
