Hi,
I have a 2008 Escalade and have been browsing through the forums for ideas. Seems like most people are install the Pioneer 8500. It's currently discontinued but there's plenty of places to get it. Rather then get the "older" 2013 Pioneer 8500, I'm looking at the AVH-4000NEX. $7-800 is around the limit I would like to spend on a receiver.
Here's what I would like. Double din to take the space of the old one with as big of a screen as possible. Appradio or something similar is a nice feature as I'd like to use it for Waze and Pandora. The 4000NEX is also supposed to get a Maestro RR update this summer which would be really cool since I was looking at Kenwood for that feature.

Is the AVH-4000NEX the best receiver out right now for my price range or is there any better.
Any car audio forums that discuss all this stuff?
Thanks!

That's a good unit. If I had a normal radio in my truck I would be putting that one in. I had the 8500, 8400 and 4400 and they all do about the same.

Thanks for your input sir.
Your installs before have inspired me. I was also debating getting a Sony head unit like yours and just run an ipad mini off a cd slot holder. On the escalade, it would be right over the current Nav screen. But then I'd have to worry about taking the ipad mini in/out every time I get out.

I got the 4000nex its perfect just waiting on the firmware this summer and I should be able to use my stock xm!!! I did have to tap into a reverse wire under the dash to get my camera to turn on automatically but that took seconds and I got my radio when it first came out for around $625-650 I can't remember but search on the internet you should be able to find it cheaper than $700

Im using the nex-8000, and I am so glad I got this one. The NEX line is amazing, and you will be happy with it I promise.

I went with the 8000 mainly because I know a guy and got it for a really good price. That, and I wanted all the features I could possibly get. I've already used Appradio, and mirrorlink for my iPhone. The maestro thing is supposed to get updated when the Apple for the car thing comes out in the summer.

The one thing I LOVED about it is there isn't any adaptors you need for the phones anymore. Its straight USB, and for mirrorlink USB/HDMI with the apple digital adaptor which I already had from my previous appradio3.

Anyway If you want photos, or a video, or anything let me know.

There is a bypass for the video in motion by the way without grounding wires, or adding chips. It's super easy to do as well.. so I'm not sure if thats a selling point for you or not.

Thanks for the input guys.
It seems to places like Crutchfield have the NEX4000 for $700 but it's only $550 on ebay from reputable sellers. I remember pioneer used to being real picky about being an authorized dealer for the warranty. Is this still the case or would it be safe to buy it from ebay.

tazjamin, do you remember what wire you used for the reverse?

Atreuce, I saw that there's a $15 bypass that allows in motion use. I really like the Appradio feature so I can hook up my Galaxy S4 to use Pandora and Waze for Nav.

I was looking at the NEX4000 myself, but it only sales for $500 in Houston, TX. Should I be concerned? It's so new, that I doubt they are refurbs. $7-800 for that unit seems to be a bit on the high side

Ok, I'm going to pull the trigger. Here are the parts I'm looking at for a 2008 Escalade.

Pio AVH-4000NEX
Metra 99-2007
Axxess GMOS-LAN-012
Axxess - ASWC-1
Microbypass

Couple questions before I make the purchase.
Am I missing anything else?
Do I need the CD-MU200 mirror link cable?
Do I need the CD-AH200 android kit?
Is there a better microphone then the CD-MC20 from Pioneer?
How do I hook up to the existing backup camera?
How do I hook up to the Rear DVD player?

Thanks for the help!
