Hello all I am new here and I am looking into buying a used tahoe 99-06. Is there anything I should look out for in a used tahoe. Any problem areas or years to avoid? Thanks

welcome Jason, try to get 5.3, and one with low mileage, that's a no brainer. But see service records, adn if the tranny, or stepper motors were replaced, or covered under warranty/recall.
See if tranny has been replaced. The 4L60e is the weak link in these. Motors are tough, if good service records.

Thanks Tracy. Is there something wrong with the smaller V8 or something? Do you think I should look for one with a replaced transmission?

No but your gas mileage won't be much better at all with the 4.8L and the added power of the 5.3L is very noticeable + a much bigger array of aftermarket. If you found one that had a legit replaced tranny with all paper work that would be sweet just make sure its legit. Hey if you could find a 6.0L in a hoe or a yukon. Go for it!

nothing wrong, just the 5.3 has a tad more power for these heavy trucks. My 4.8 runs fantastic, and NO issues and I have 91K miles. But I'd love to drop in a low mileage 5.3 with a small cam.
Just see if any tranny service has been doen. If someone has had it replaced, by either warranty or rebuilt, they should offer those receipts. Mine was $1500 to be rebuild with all good parts.

6 months and mine may be gone itself, time for a 2011. :D

Cool thanks guys. I don't want transmission issues so I'm going to look for one with a good rebuild or replacement. I hate the thought of buying a car just to get a 1,500 transmission bill in a couple of months.

Jason- my 2002 Yukon SLT will be up for sale soon. It is white and only has 85,000 miles. Feel free to pm me if you are interested. Its in really good shape and has the BlackBear 91 tune.
