Low rumble/vibration

So I've searched the forums but didn't find anything similar. I drive an 01' hoe and when the car is in gear but stopped, the car vibrates and there's a low pitched 'rumble'. I can't figure out what's causing it. It seems to mostly only happen when the A/C is turned on, but every now and then it'll do it even if the A/C is off. It isn't a constant thing, but happens pretty frequently. Any ideas??

Hey, when U wrote "... vibrates..." when stopped, I'm guessing U mean U feel the shaking in steering, but not in brake pedal. If my guess is correct about your vibration, it's possible it is still happening @ city / highway speeds... U just won't hear it over road or wind noise.

More info would be needed but try shifting in N when noise happens 2 C if that changes noise, if it does then IMO the tranny is suspect. If shifting in N and D does not affect noise try going in a "safe" alley where the engine noise will bounce off walls.

Maybe if U hear the engine sound U might get an idea of source. If U R in a safe alley... and sound shows up, try different heater AC and fan settings... If these affect noise U may have a lead to source of prblm. (My gut says serpentine belt or any doodad with a bearing would B suspect if tranny doesn't pan out).

The escalade I picked up does something similar, At a stop I get what sounds like a little tapping occasionally. And then when I let off the brake it stops. Sounds like a loose exhaust hanger, but with the way it stops once I let off the brake i'm not too sure. Hopefully it isn't the trans acting up.
