Yesterday, I took my air cleaner tube to get to the dizzy cap to diagnose a stumbling/rough running problem. I was corroded, but since I don't have a job atm, I cleaned with some coke and put dielectric grease on all the points. Anyways, I put everything back together and forgot to reconnect the MAF sensor plug.
Later, I fire it up to head into town, and when I put it in gear, it smacks into drive so hard it overrode my brakes and started moving off on me. Startled me a bit... It was like an old-school hot rod going into gear, and every shift it slammed hard. I was freaking out thinking the valvebody or something decided to crap out or whatnot. So I drove around to warm everything up and stopped to check the fluid, nice and red with no metal flakes or nothing. Not bad considering that fluid has close to 50,000 miles on it...
As I was putting the dipstick back in, I noticed the MAF was unplugged, so I popped it back in and went to drive off. Smooth as silk, just like it should be. Whew! glad it wasn't something worse.
Lesson learned: double check everything before you consider the job "done"
