manual in a 99 yukon?

well on my next free paycheck i was thinking of ordering this kit:

do you think it will be any good? it says i will have full manual control. do you think it's possible? i would prefer to be able to control the clutch but it is not a necessity. i really miss my stang and having a five speed.:(

but as long as i can change my gears whenever i want i'll be happy.

but i was also told that i can convert it to a full manual but i would have to disable the electronic control on the computer plus the tranny would have to be strong enough. i know they have manuals in some of the old sierras/c1500's bolted to 350's but would that be strong enough? plus how much more would it cost to go full manual?

eliminate the labor factor. i'm just looking for raw prices and any real problems i could run into. the reason i am thinking about going with the kit is because it is in the right price range (wife has bad spending habits). any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you will want to leave the 4L60 alone most on here will tell you it will become a weak point once you open it up. I went from a manual to a turbo 400 I DO NOT recommend this for you. The 5 speeds from chevy were very weak in the trucks as far as performance apps and there were litte to no parts to help untill recently. That being said is the main reason I switched went to a 700R4 at first they keep blowing now have the turbo 400. The 700R4 and 4L60 share about the same weaknesses and were not designed to be hammered on in a heavy truck like ours. If you want a trans to shift like a standard always you would need a manual valve body I believe or have the adjustment made through the ECM along with a kit like you listed to hold it and give you control. I would look into a heavier trans the 80 seris is the beast in Chevys line but means more money but you save in the long run from risk of failures in a 60 seris.

well what if i managed to get my hands on a 4l80E and then installed a manual valve body? do you think that would tough enough? because my engine has enough balls/torque to push way harder (i can feel it) but the tranny is my weak point right now. not saying anything is wrong with it, but it just doesn't have enough ooompfff or whatever.

i ended using my free paycheck to order two kicker l5 15"s with maching dual 750.1 kicker amps. but i have another paycheck coming up soon sooo...

The 4L80e trans is certainly tuff enough for anything you might want to do, but it will require a commitment to see it through.

Many guys have started down this road and lost interest. You need to do the research up front before you start. If four wheel drive is involved, there are more variables.

There are several versions of the 4L80e cases. Make sure you get one with that has provisions to mount the neutral safety switch. There are some earlier threads on this subject that point out some of the other things that need to be done.

I don’t think you would be satisfied with a manual valve body in a 4L80e. It would make more sense to do a TCU (Trans Control Unit) with the manual option so it could be switched to automatic when you get tired of shifting.

As 961500 mentioned, a 4L60e will not take a lot of abuse and a shift kit will not change that.

I've driven a manual valve body Ford on the streets, reverse pattern even. It was cool the first day, it got old real quick.

4l80E FTW or do a manual swap = Tremec FTW

Is the 4L80E a direct swap to the 4L60E? Is it a plug and play type swap or are their a few things that would have to be done to make this swap work?

It is not a direct swap. The size and the wiring are two of the differences. If I remember correctly (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong) you will also need to modify or move your tranny crossmember to along with a new driveshaft.

It's been done a few time, I need to scroll around to find the threads.
