Hey guys I'm brand spanking new to the forum, I have a misfire in my engine. Took it to the dealer, they changed my plugs and wires and told me I had a bad injector. They also said the fuel was leaking down into my catalytic converter, so now I need to replace my cat. They qouted my a price for the work in the area of $2K+. There's got to be a cheaper option, right? My thoughts were to get one of those aftermarket MF onesies put on in front of my borla cat-back. Another thought was to go to a muffler guy and get everything redone(header included), that is if I'm gonna spend over 2K. Guys help me out, your input would be greatly appreciated!!!

The catalytic converters are serviced as an assembly. So if one goes bad you replace 2.

In my experience the universal weld in cats don't last long and don't perform like OE.

You need to fix the misfire before replacing the cat or the new one will be destroyed. Though a clogged cat can cause a misfire on 4 cylinders so I don't see how they are condemning fuel injectors unless they did a balance test. If so where are the test results?

Thx for response Brutus, I had a diagnostic tool already, I knew that my code read lean on the left when I was smelling the fuel(acually running rich or fuel not getting to the spark). I knew there was already something wrong at that point of FI system. But, I take it your advice is to go with OE from dealer correct?

Btw, I didn't say this earlier. The faulty injector was replaced with a new one. srry

Yes. If you replaced the injector and the engine now runs good then the converter might not melted. Has it been tested and failed or is the dealer wanting to replace it just because of the misfires? Depending how severe the misfire and how long it was driven the cat could still be ok

Misfire still happening, not sure if it's the O2 sensors is causing it or what. The cat is probably gone I was driving the truck for over a year in this condition(lack of money to fix it). They told me my coil pack was fine, changed plugs and wires. So I'm not sure why it's still happening.

When I said "MF onesies" I was talking about one of those 'Y' pipes with the cats all in one piece.
