Hello all,

My 96 Tahoe just went under the knife, the original motor at 400k decided it needed to break a piston. SO i went a bit crazy and bought a HT383E. Motor came from a running truck, i seen it run myself. It runs, cam retard value is -1 for timing. Issues are this, idle surging at a stop in D, stalling, and lack of power when i take off from a stop. Misfire counts skyrocket when taking off from a stop. Im using an old Snapon Brick scanner.

-Flowtech short headers
-NEW Fuel injector, the MFI conversion one
-Gaskets from Intake mani up
-NGK platinum plugs/Taylor wires
-Distributor was reused on this engine

Egr tube was modified to fit the headers. Its sealed, i had to cut away part of the nut so it would thread onto the pipe. Cleaned both intakes, converted to an electric fan, all gauges in vehicle read fine. Checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner at idle. Map is reading, the intake was cleaned without removing any sensors though and i used brake clean since thats what was available. Im thinking EGR valve issues, but any input is greatly appreciated. I need it to tow my racecar to cruise week in OC next weekend.

does the map reading change with the surging? what does the egr pintle position read when surging. i would suggest you re verify the cam retard measurement with the engine just above 1000 rpm. it kinda sounds like the dizzy may have been knocked out of alignment. also did you put a gasket on the fuel body where it goes thru the plenum? and lube it first?
