missing part on a/c?

hope this is the right place if not please move. i was looking under the hood and noticed something might be missing here are the pics please let me know.

and this is something i found just laying underneath not sure where it goes and it wont fit on the thing on the top of the a/c

Are you talking about the aluminum nipple in the center of the pic? That is the low pressure port used for adding R-134a. It should have a blue cap on it but it is not missing a hose. I am not sure if not having a cap matters too much, just for keeping out dirt. Tape it off maybe.

Both caps are black colored on the Vortec. Same part number gm 52471377. hose appears to be an emissions hose maybe to the canister itself but don't recall them having a curve wave to it. You have the hose layout right there on the lable on your fan shroud I see so trace them all out.

Oh and yes the cap does make a difference so get one and put it on.

The idea is the valves can get debris on them during service and leak or just leak because of age. The cap is the last resort to stop flow. There have been times when I have removed a cap to hear gas escape briefly. That cap was retaining the leak that was present thru the valve. The valve was replaced of course but you can see how it not only holds a leak it keeps dirt out.
