Yeah, if you want to boost potential MPGs -- pun was a happy accident! -- you want a turbo charger. But the MPG savings NEVER pays for the Turbo install.

I don't recall if you would have a mechanical fan or electrical fans, but if you have a mechanical fan, switching to electric will save you about 1 MPG.

If you know what kind of driving you will be doing, changing the rear axle ratio (and front for AWD/4WD rigs) can improve your MPGs. Buy this gives you either a city driving or a freeway driving bias. That means the MPGs will be better on one or the other, and then worse on the one that you are not biased toward.

Variable valve timing, displacement on demand, and autostart/stop will also net you some MPGs, at the cost of longevity of the engine. Like going from a 300,000 to 500,000 miles lifespan to a 100,00 or less miles lifespan.

There are only two things that are guaranteed to increase your miles per gallon:

Drive like a little old lady. Respect the skinny pedal vs seeing how often you can push it to the floor.

By a high MPG beater and then drive your rig for fun when you don't have to commute.

Don't forget tires! All-terrain tires have a higher rolling resistance which will decrease mpg, power and handling and increase stopping distance on dry pavement, as compared to highway tires.
