I haven't touched mine for three years. It just wasn't cold enough.
Guys in the shop say that the gauges tell them something is clogged.
They changed the condenser and orifice tube. Still clogged. Ordered up a new lines kit and filter/drier/accumulator. See if that uncloggs it.
I miss my truck. Hopefully I get it back soon.

Woot!
Got my truck back from the shop! They had it for a week! I was going nuts driving my wifes 4.2I6 Trailblazer.

I saw the freezer temp probe readings myself! Max AC on, 28c(82f) outside and the temp of the air blowing out the drivers front vent was.......-11c(11f)! Below freezing! I"m so jazzed!

They replaced the following;
- Condensor - Aftermarket - PN 7-4721
- Orifice Tube
- Filter/Drier/Accumulator - OEM GM Dealer PN 2724924
- Every AC Line - OEM GM Dealer PN's 19169333, ???(I can't find it right now)
Basically everything except the evap and compressor.

Thank the lords of Kobol that I don't have to pay labour costs....as it is, I paid ~$500 in parts.

Get a $12 digital gauge at the grocery store. There is no way it is blowing 11F for real. At 11F your low side would be about 5 psi......your cycle switch trips at ~23 psi.
If it was blowing 11F, any moisture in the air would freeze on the evap and turn the evap into a block of ice, which will block the airflow till it barely blows out the vents at all. I had this happen once on my 93 (r12) that was blowing 24F on a trip back from Cali.
When this happens, the 134a will be so cold that it cannot evpaorate, which could cause liquid 134a to reach the compressor = boom. That is why the cycle switch is there, to protect the compressor and for freeze up.
Most likely the freezer temp gauge is just not that accurate.

What brand condenser did you go with? BTW do you have rear air?

I bet you it was 11 degrees C which if my math is rite a tad over 50 degrees which would be great being it was mid 80's outside. JMO

No rear air.
It was definately in the negatives.

But the shops thermometer maybe off, so I did go buy a new digital thermometer this morning at the grocery store. :) It was only $10! :D
I'll post up pics tomorrow!
Thanks for the tips!

I love those digital ones, they have C and F and when the batt goes out, I just buy another thermometer at only $10.......I usually lose the spare batt that comes with it, lol.

Ok, you guys pegged it. Faulty mechanical gauge.

I tried the new digital gauge. 28c(82f) outside again at idle, max ac, drivers front vent: The gauge read 11c(52f).
However after being on the Hwy for a bit, I saw the gauge go down to 2c(35f)! :)

Anyways, I like it. I'm good for another couple of years I figure.
