I have 298k on my 2003 Z71. Just curious if there is any point to pull the valve springs out and replace with some ls6 or similar? I don't plan on doing any cam swap at all, or at least not for the forseeable future.

Anyone put aftermarket springs in a stock motor? Or would I be wasting time and money?

thank you.

New parts are usually not a bad idea on a high mileage motor. You would not NEED LS6 springs but they aren't going to hurt anything over new stock springs. Without seeing and driving yours, I wouldn't touch it generally speaking.

Yea I kinda assumed it was a reach but never hurts to ask.

Sorta still on topic...would picking up a set of 706 heads cheap locally and having them ported and polished be OK to swap on mine? They're like $100 local.

I have 862 on my 5.3 flex fuel

706s are virtually identical to the 862. Porting may help but in reality idk how much gain you would see for the work involved.
But, if you have the time and money.. by all means do it. Heck if you can dyno before and after too that would be sweet.

Ah, the porting and polishing days. I bought a set of heads off of an iroc SB (old school) and spent hours of government time porting and polishing. Made my 360 (360 .60 over) scream a bit more.

Are 706 heads Castech heads?
Some not all.
The heads were sourced from a few different foundries. So you have to look at the casting identifier mark on the head. It is under the rocker "rail". The castech heads have a mark that looks like a car battery if i remember correctly.

Nope not car battery looks like a AA battery 1639739838385.jpg
