I'm trying to get a set of seats up from Texas to Alaska. My parents are coming up in May and I want them to bring the seats on the plane with them. I called the airlines and they said if it abides by the regular rules then it's considered a regular checked bag. Each seat will be individually boxed up and they need to be less than 51lbs and 62 inches (length + width + height) I have a set for 375 that the guy is holding for me before I get them from him and need to find out if they will clear those baggage limitations.

Can someone please help me out to measure and weigh one of these seats so I can close this deal!?!?

Iv been searching everywhere locally and bugging people left and right to sell me their seats and have had no luck.

no one can measure and weigh one of these things for me. I'm going to try and bug one of my neighbors to borrow one of their seats. Only thing is, it will be kind of weird asking to borrow a seat out of their suburban when I don't really know any of them, lol. O well.

Still would be nice if someone else could do it real quick for me before that ;)

Where you able to get the dimension of them. I will have to remove the brackets and head rests and then be put into a box. But If we can get the dimension down to 62 linear inches then it will go strait onto the airplane as a checked bag. My dad has yet to be able to get all this done but still has some time. I was just wondering if you were able to measure or not and had the measurements on hand so I can be put at ease with how much im going to be spending on shipping these things. If I can get them boxed up and under the 51 pounds and under the 62 linear inches then it will only be 2 regular baggage fees around 25$ each, if even one of those are off then the fee jumps to 150$ each.

If you didn't already have the seats measured when you pulled them out then don't worry about it unless you really want to. Ill just sweat it out till my dad gets them boxed up and measured.

If by chance you didn't know linear is length + width + height = linear inches

I found a thread that someone measured the space behind their 3rd row seat on and 03 Tahoe and from panel to panel it was 49 inches to half that is 24.5 inches and then from floor board to top of seat was 25 inches, so if folded and measuring the seat cushion to back cushion it is under 12.5 inches then ill be good. It looks promising. I'm hoping that it all works out, if not then I think I still got a good deal with seats and shipping. But still would be out the 675$ total.

Also for future reference once I get the seats home ill measure them before I unbox them and get pics so that if anyone ever does this same thing then it will be here. Very doubtful that anyone will ever do this same type of shipping again but u never know.

Thanks,

- Alex

So update on this seat thang: we removed the head rests and brackets. Brackets were a lil hard to remove and re install, with all the plastic shielding to remove and not breaking them was the hardest thing. Make sure you mark the brackets and also the wires that control the latches.

The seats measured and weighed under the requirements to check them with regular baggage fees. So on the the off chance any of you ever take a flight or have family taking a flight it will save you a couple hunnnid dallos. Fortunately the person that charged the bags did something wrong and for 2 bags and all three boxes only charged us 85$ for everything. So I think we just got lucky but they were able to go with out issue. TSA did end up opening all three to check them at some point hence the TSA tape when I picked them up.
