so heres the deal..i have been dealing with an alternator whine for a few months now...its not that bad but just knowing its there pisses me off. i have tried like everything ive heard to fix it...i have my gains set all the way down my grounds are solid on bare metal. my rcas are not ran down the same side as my power wire..the only other solution ive seen is grounding the rcas? has anyone had to do this?
would installing the big 3 upgrade help this?
any input is appreciated..thanks

Big three might help. Or it might not, but it wont hurt to do it regardless.

Have you tried to narrow down where the noise is coming from? Try unplugging the RCAs from your amp while the engine is running to see if the whine stops. If it does, then its either the RCAs or the radio. If it still whines, then its the amp itself, or else the power or ground to the amp. If the noise is still there with the RCAs unplugged from the amp, then I would try the Big 3 next to see if that helps.

unknown at this time.
if you use the rca filters yes. they typically have two jacks each. But make sure you have good power grounds for everything.

Make sure your Power lines for you amp are as FAR AWAY from your RCA's as possible. If your whine goes away when you unplug your RCA's also try re grounding your head unit, if you grounded it to a common ground, look for another place.

EDIT:

Also try another set of GOOD RCA's sometimes cheapy ones can pick lots of noise. if you still can't find the issue you, you can switch to using balanced line drivers. which should solve your issue completely, (if its coming in via RCA)
