Went to use the a/c today bc this weather has been heating up lately. I let the truck warm up and the air never got cold. The blower seems like it is working pretty well on low and high settings. I popped the hood to check out the compressor and the clutch just kept cycling on and off. I thought it might be low on freon, so i added a can of the r134a with uv dye and leak sealer and detected no leaks. I hope this is just an orfice tube or something, and not a new compressor deal :emotions122:

What is the leak sealer as described on the can? How does it harm the system? And what do you think my problem might be? Thanks Sunlit

leak sealer can clog up up the orifice. what is the on-off times of compressor after system being on for 2 minute while idling. and your temp control knob is not making a difference at all?

did the extra can of freon help at all as well?

That is true about the orfice tube and leak sealer, i didn't think about that lol. when the clutch would kick on it would click, spin for about 3-4 seconds and then click off, etc. the temp control knob was on cold all the way and the can of freon didn't even really make a difference. granted my system with rear a/c all together takes 64oz of freon! i do think i have a leak in either the low side valve or in one of the o rings. i'm starting to think that i should just go ahead and replace everything and do it right. everything (new murray compressor, accumulator, condensor, orfice tube and freon) priced at my work is around 300-350 bucks all together. is there any way possible to save my old compressor if it is just a valve or oring? maybe take the compressor off, flush the lines, replace said above and refill the system? or should i just go new on everything

find the exact leak first and I don't see why you need to replace the condenser unless it is physically damage. your charge seems normal and flowing so if you have a leak fix the leak and look in the hvac box for you non-cold air issue. it sound like the temp door is not moving or the evaporator fins are plugged with crap.

my compressor did the same on/off thing when i was adding freon to it (i was completely out and compressor would not engage before)

on my 3rd can of freon i turned on the rear ac to see if that for some odd reason had something to do with it. not sure if it was adding the 3rd can or something with the rear ac but it never did it again after that, and has been running fine now with/without the rear ac on

not sure if that helps
