I have the following options on my new Tahoe SSV:

9G8 Daytime Running Lamp & Headlamps Control - Delete
T62 Lighting, Daytime Running, Delete
T78 Automatic Headlamp – Delete

Is there any way to restore or can the dealer restore with TECH2 or otherwise?

Please reply,

Hey Mike. The SSV DRL delete is both a programming mod as well as a different headlamp switch. The SSV switch has no "AUTO" mode like a civvie Tahoe does, just off, parking lamps, and headlights. You'd need to get a new headlamp switch for a civvie Tahoe and have the programming changed in the BCM to fully restore DRLs. Even then, I don't know if the auto lamps would work...does you SSV have the little bubble in the center of the dash (near the base of the windshield) for the light sensor?

Just walked outside and looked at a department issued SSV. It does not

have the bubble near the windshield. I wonder if any SSV has it?

My guess would be no, as the DRL delete is standard on most of the govt packaged trucks. I'd imagine that as long as its ordered with the 9G8 RPO code, they build it with a different dash that doesn't have the sensor.

That being said, the DRLs would still work if he got the new switch and programming - he just wouldn't have the autolamp feature without that sensor in place.

It has both the switch with "AUTO" and the 'bubble' in the center of the dash - this is a true Dept. issued SSV; RPO codes attached.

Do you think they can program just the AUTO part and leave the DRL disabled?

What will a dealer charge to do this?

The daytime running lights can be disabled simply by pulling the fuse.... if it has a fuse for the DRL.

I would think a dealer would charge $75 to $100.... if they can do what you want.

Suprised to see the civilian dash and switch in place with the 9G8 code. Pretty uncommon but hey, it's saving you a bunch of hassle. The dealership should be able to enable the autolamp feature with a Tech II, provided the sensor is actually there underneath the bubble. They can probably leave the DRL's disabled too if that's what you're after.

I think the difference might be in 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive. And perhaps changes between model years even. I have a 4 wheel drive with the auto switch and no light sensing bubble near the windshield. I seem to recall the 4 wheel drive is not pursuit rated whereas the 2 wheel drive is? Or did they change that in later model years as well? It gets confusing. But at least we have a good conversation going, it's so slow in these Tahoe and Suburban forums lately.

The dealer is telling me this is not a setting they can change this with the Tech II, they won't even hook up and try for me. Does anyone know if they are full of crap?
