**SOLVED*** NEED IMMEDIATE HELP PLEASE< random igntion dropoff

Had a few times where I was driving in the past week and she stumbled while driving, only for a second or two. Was like someone turned off the key and back on very quickly a few times. Today I am 50 miles from home, and it started doing it only now I can barely keep it running. When it cuts out, the tach drops to zero, the fuel gauge shots all the way up. I got it to get me the last two blocks, It was cutting in and out at a rapid pace, even at idle.

Any ideas? I don't want to be stranded here tonight, and any help is appreciated.

either loose or dirty battery cables or grounds on the frames right rail or fender next to the battery or on the thermostat housing. if the entire dash panel stops like warning light and speedo and tach all at the same time I would look into the ignition switch outputs. you can also inspect you coil and cap for damage or leakage of spark power.

I limped to to auto zone, scanner showed cam and crankshft position sensor codes... Not sure if the problem caused the codes or one of them is actually bad. I bought both and get to sit in a snowbank trying to change them. Which one is easier to change?

well if you must change something, the crank is required to start and run the cammy would just give you hard starting and grief. may need to do a case relearn when the crank is done or else another code. although on two separate fuses they both feed of the same ignition switch wire as does ignition. crank and ignition system is on the same ECM1 fuse. unless both are working properly you will get codes. You remember the codes that came out at the store.

Not sure the exact codes. I did make it home, it had about four "episodes" on the 50 mile drive, but they didnt last more than a few seconds. I replaced the cam sensor but have not had enough time driving it since to know if it was the cause. I did drink a shit ton of beer though so there is that lol

help

did you just fill up, water in fuel. extremely cold, fuel filter frozen up from moisture in fuel. Check with dealer and see if any thing like "HEAT" can be used. filter is in the tank on most newer cars and trucks so would try to get moisture out with some magic additive that doesn't ruin your fuel system.

water or frozen water does not spring up crank and cam codes. they would register as a misfire if the charge could not burn.

I had a weird ignition issue with my Vortec that acted like the key was being turned off like you mention.

The damn coil wire was grounding out on a bracket right above it.

After changing the Cam sensor, and driving about 50 miles, the problem has NOT resurfaced. However, I will not be convinced its fixed until I drive it at least a few weeks.
