negotiating sale price with post bail-out GM

I wanted to ask you guys why the Tahoes seem so much more expensive than Durangos. I saw plenty of Durangos, even high-end models, for around $33K sitting on the local Chrysler lot, and that's before any negotiation. I haven't seen Tahoes for anywhere near that low, based on Web prices at least (haven't made it to a dealer yet, but this thread suggests Web prices are the bottom anyway.

Perhaps I am comparing apples to oranges here (Tahoes are a bit bigger?). I'm curious because while I think Tahoes look the nicest, that sure isn't worth that big of a premium. And with the Durango, the rear seats go down flat, a pretty cool feature I don't think Tahoes do?

Just picked up our brand new 2010 Denali (delivery miles only) for 20%+ off original MSRP. Decided on what I wanted, searched online for dealers who had one in stock, called and made my offer. Took almost an entire day of phone calls but ultimately bought from the very first dealer I called. Paid cash although dealers would rather have you finance through them.....$ Bought $170 one way airline ticket, flew down on Saturday morning and drove it home that day.... Still getting calls from dealers who didn't take me serious enough the first time....

Personally, I stay away from all things Chrysler. I do NOT have a good track record with that brand at all

Agreed that Chrysler had issues in the past (and my current Wrangler was poorly engineered, IMO), but they are now owned by Mercedes. The 2011 Durangos (and Grand Cherokees) are now based on the Mercedes M series, which gets pretty high ratings in Consumer Reports.

I'm not happy with GM or Chrysler bailouts/UAW, but I'm not going to let my dogma run over my Karma if there is a vehicle I really want. Show me a guy who had problem with a Chrysler, I'll show you one who had problems with GM or Ford. I always thought the "Ford sucks" "Chevy sucks" debate was pretty mindless.

I see now that it is not a direct comparison. Maybe the old Trailblazers were in that class? Too bad the Durangos don't get that much better mileage.

I dunno, $45K is a lot to drop on a car. I think I'd rather put the difference in my brokerage account. It's just so hard to drop that kinda money on something that depreciates the second you drive it off the lot.

Such indecision. I need to do some test drives.

FIAT is actually a pretty good company these days ... heck, if they retag a Chrysler from an Alfa Romeo 8C, I'd buy it.
