Hey guys Im new to the site, seems to be a ton of info on here, you guys seem to have done a great job, and run a great forum. I recently picked up a 99 Yukon SLT for the winter here in So. Illinois. Shes really clean for a 99 and runs great. I would like to do some small mods: exhaust, tint tail lights, and possibly headlights, ddm HID kit. Im going to try to restore the lenses on the headlights w the turtle wax restore kit, havent ever done this b4 hopefully it works out. Any suggestions on some cheap simple mods Im all ears. I love putting my own style into all of my vehicles but considering the age of the Yukon i dont plan to dump a ton of money into it. Id like to stay aroud $250 on my exhaust set up any suggestions lmk. Wish i could find some Z71 fender flares for cheap but that doesnt seem to b an option. Anyway good forum fellas ill talk to you all soon! Yukon.jpg

Welcome! Here's what i did to my 2000 caddy. I had a muffler shop install a flowmaster 70 series along with a 3 inch tailpipe and a chrome tip, which cost me 350$. I would skip the turtle wax on the headlights and just get some new assemblys that have glass lenses instead of the plastic, they wont fog up and turn yellow. I have DDM hids in the low beams and my fog lights on my caddy in 5000k bulbs and love them!! Never use my high beams anymore the hids are that bright. Another simple pretty cheap mod is a blackbear tune! I too have one and i love it! didnt really notice an increase in mileage with it. Drivability is greatly increased! Gets up and goes better than it did before the tune.

To me, tinting lights might look fine during the day, but if you do a good bit of night driving, especially on unlit country roads, and highways, you'll only be torturing yourself with poorer night vision, meaning a more unsafe vehicle.

Best place to start spending the money, would be to insure you have good hoses, a good Serpentine Belt, Battery, Plugs, Oil, Lubricants, Filters, Wiper Blades, all lights work, Tires, Brakes.

Once one gets caught up with that which could of course runs into the multiple $100's. then I would begin to think about some mods.

As for polishing out light housings and such, one can often get good results with just good Paint Polishes, like Meguiars 205, and maybe compounds if a little worse. Worst cases might need a number of different grits of wet sandpapers to clean up with some elbow grease.

The problems often with headlight restos is after all that work, they look like ass a month or two later. Waxes and sealants don't last.

Best bet, coat them with a Ceramic Coating like CQuartz DLX or such. The same goes for the paint and glass, decon, polish and coat. These coatings are harder than the paint, and with a 99 model, trust that your paint is probably wearing pretty thin at this point regardless.

Was the sole reason I finally decided to coat my 97 with CQuartz Coating.

You don't need to do 3" piping. There will be no gains going bigger than 2.5" on a stock truck.

True theres not. I just like to have a tad bit bigger exhaust pipe. To me it looks better to have a 3 inch tailpipe going into a 3 inch inlet to 4 inch outlet tip, instead of having a smaller tailpipe going into a bigger tip. Its just a personal preference is all. Only way youd see a difference is if you changed the pipe diameter before the muffler. Not really needed on a stock truck.
