Hi everyone- Just purchased a 2001 Yukon XL 1500 SLT for my family and this is my first Yukon- my first SUV really. It currently seats 8, but I really would like to seat 9. I've done a fair amount of searching online about doing a center console to jump seat conversion, and I've found several folks selling the jumpseat on ebay, but the installation process is totally out of my league. So, I have several questions and hope that some of you experts could steer me in the right direction.

First, I can't seem to find any take apart instructions for the seats and center console online. Is it that difficult that I should try to locate a repair manual for it?

Secondly, assuming I can find a jump seat that matches my interior, and I'm able to figure out how to pull out the console, are there any other issues I need to be aware of? Like, will the built in arm rests on the front bucket seats get in the way? What other models could I look at to try and locate a jump seat? I've seen folks say that Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon seat from 2000-2006 are all bolt in compatible. Is that right?

Also, what about the dash board? Will I need to also replace the lower dashboard when I pull out the console?

Any issues with the electrical once I remove the console? What will I have to give up if I remove it?

Thanks for any input you might have. Totally a fresh fish here and don't want to get too far down this project and find out a major gotcha that I missed.

easy swap, 4 bolts or nuts hold the front seats in, the inside edges of the seat brackets hold the console or jump seat down. Armrests I believe will clear and I dont think anything from the console will be lost as the cigarette lighters are part of the lower dash. Pretty sure dash is the same console or not.

The dash will need the flip down cup holders to look complete. I did the opposite swap in my truck and it took maybe an hour. it was cake

Thanks guys for the info. I've spent a bit more time looking at the interior and couple things I see: I don't think armrests are going to be an issue. They are part of the seat, so taking them off (as I've seen some people suggest) doesn't really look like it gives me any more clearance for the jump seat.

I will lose the headphone jacks at the back of the console, but I'm not terribly worried about those.

I've found several jumpseats that have cup holders at the base of the seat, so if I got that kind of seat I wouldn't need to install cup holders in the dash.

However, what I'm curious to know is once I take the center console out, what will that lower dash look like? That part of the lower dash has my tape player, which I want to keep, but will I need to do anything special to cover up the section where the center console meets the lower dash?

Sure- Here's a pic of the console and the lower dash. I want to keep the lower dash portion with the tape player and accessory drawer. The cup holders are part of the center console and would come out. I just don't know what the lower dash looks like once that console comes out. Is there a large gaping hole there, or is it finished out nicely enough that I can just leave it as-is?

The jumpseats I'm looking at have cup holders on them, so I wouldn't need to install those in the dash.

Hmm... Well, I guess I'll just have to pull out that console and see what I got hiding under there. Sounds like it's a pretty straight forward job, so I may just pull everything out this weekend and see what I'm dealing with. I'll post pics once I got it all apart.
