I just got a 2002 Tahoe and have noticed a few things and hoping for a little guidance for solutions:

1) The steering is making an awful groaning/vibrating sound on right turns only. It appears to be coming from the engine bay area. Anyone experienced this before? It's only on right turns, so it's not typical of air/pump noise.
2) 235 70 R17 tires were installed by the previous owner, and the overall diameter is about 2" smaller than stock. I plan to replace them eventually with the correct size, but I would like to know how urgently these should be replaced.
3) Missing spare tire winch and tire. I really should get something. I see Dorman sells one, are they any good? I'd consider an autowrecker, but I'm not sure how rusted on it might be.
4) I have the antilock/brake light on intermittently. I'd like to check out the brake control module. Where should I look? (I'll search this myself anyway, but I thought I'd ask).
5) The rear defog is not working. On my Buick, the rear defog module would overhead and cause the defogger to quit. I'd like to look for it on the Tahoe. Anyone know where it is?

So far I just love this truck. I've been slowly cleaning the interior leather and shampooing the carpets. I have to replace the front right speaker and door lock actuator too. My '99 Lesabre is driving me nuts. I have high speed vibrations, even though I've had the wheels balanced. I've got water leaks into the cabin area, and I've tried countless times to seal it off to no avail. I can see where it's dripping in but can't seem to seal it. It's just a bad design. The Tahoe is so much nicer.

3) I'd check junkyards for a clean one or ebay/amazon for any deals

1) could be a hub assembly, i forget which side making noise on right turns points to, i believe left
2)if all 4 are the same, it can be put off but watch that you aren't accidentally driving like a grandma (slower than speedo shows)
3)My stock one rusted and seized this year, i got the dorman and it doesnt have that stupid locking feature than made me cut the cable on my stock one, id strongly suggest a new oem and antiseize or new dorman
4)antilock could also be caused by bad hub assembly, go get codes read at auto parts store that had a reader capable of abs codes, oreillys new ones do

Thanks for your replies.
Is the Dorman spare tire carrier for the Silverado thu one I want? there is none listed for the Tahoe.

I will try the re-soldering first for the brake light issue. It's easy enough to do.

As for the under sized tires, my actual speed is about 5Km/hr slower than the spedometer.
