I just bought a '95 Tahoe 2dr 4x4 from the State of Texas. It was used by the Parks and Wildlife department. These are bought online, and it's too far for me to go preview, so I just go by the description and the little pictures and cross my fingers.
The good: It runs good, it shifts good. That was most important since I had to drive it home 2 hours. The A/C is all new, using AC Delco parts. It has 4 practically new tires (BF Goodrich Long Trail TA in 245/75/16). It doesn't have any rust, and the body is in really nice shape.
The bad: It has 250k miles. I knew that going in. I figured the State has rebuilt or replaced parts as needed, as I've bought from them before, and they're happy to spend my tax dollars on replacing parts as needed. The driver's seat bottom is shredded, but the rest of the interior is nice - but dirty. It has manual locks and windows. No big deal, as this is a 2nd vehicle for goofing off anyway.
The ugly: It has the ugliest wheels GM ever put on a truck. They look like spare wheels. Judge for yourself. Luckily there's newer take-offs available everywhere. It also was fitted with a dual fuel system by the State when it was new, so it can run on gasoline or (insert Hank Hill voice) clean burning propane. That should be interesting.
The cost? I paid $1700. I just had time to give it a quick exterior wash. Here goes...
