My 95 Tahoe is a 4x4. I prefer a 2wd as I have no real need for the 4x4.

My plan is to make it lower, which I think can do with the 4x4, but I was thinking taking all that out would improve fuel economy by losing all the extra weight. My thought was using wheel hubs off the NBS truck that is 2wd, thus keeping it a 6 lug. I was wondering if anyone has tried this hub and if it worked or not. Aside from the wheel studs being different, looks like it could work.

I can't afford to go out and buy a 2wd, so this is my idea. It may not be the best way, but I need to bring the height down a little for health reasons.

Here's the back of the hub for a 00 Silverado 2wd...

And the one for the 95 4wd...Looks Similar to me....

Thanks guys for any input...

unknown at this time.
if you can not afford a 2wd just leave it. your idea of loosing the weight gets expensive and complicated. an modification to wiring , drivetrain and pcm is in order..besides you are only talking about the 200 pounds. the parasitic drag of a t-case is not that bad.if you drop it real low use the 4wd to help climb the driveway dips so you don't scratch the front as hard.:)

The whole plan is to only go about 3-4 lower...if that. I just need to be able to get in and out of it easier than I do now.

My son is always saying for me to keep the 4wd "in case" and I was told all that crap up there is about 800 lbs...If it's only 2, its not worth taking off. I just want to bring it down some is all..

I have a 4wd set-up going to 2wd. All I did was swap out trans and removed the transfer case and front drive shaft

Belltech makes lowering kits for 4x4 trucks. I have a 3/4 drop kit that I am going to install soon. :)

I thought he was complaining about the gas mileage...

So it easy to drop a 4x4...cheaper then a 2x4.

Lower stock torsion keys, get your ass to PEP boys for lowering shackles...they are 25-40 bucks!

Want to go lower? get lowering keys

Yup, 3/4 drop kits run about $350. 2/2 drop kits are about $70.

I was not aware Pep Boys had lowering shackles...I think this is the route I am going to go, especially if removing it all is only going to pick up 300 lbs, so I guess that's not a whole lot in mileage either...

After all, it IS a Tahoe...lol

If you want a lower truck, sell the 4x4 and purchase a 2WD unit. I never understood the idea of lowering/and or removing the 4x4 components to lower it. Not a bash towards anyone, but just my .02
