even if you got the bb tune you could just put it back to stock for smog and then put it back on, it does reset the sensors doing that so, always drive it a couple days first on the stock file before going to smog it.
awesome to hear going back was not a problem. luckily i just smogged so now is the perfect time to pull the trigger for a tune.

the detail about file size had me concerned about possibly locking my ecu out of ever getting it to pass smog if i couldn't get it back to original size.

a nice tcm tune sounds like fun, not jumping into 6th gear going 35 around town should make for a much more lively daily.

much appreciate the feedback

Yours goes into 6th at 35? Mine goes into 6th at 40 and the converter only locks up in 5th and sixth, mine has had a BB tune since 2017, it's been great.

it's been awhile since i took note of exact gear changes but i know it goes into 6th just cruising around the neighborhood which is about 35. the most annoying is the amount of throttle input she want before i get a downshift. between that and the tall gears you really gotta ring its neck before it wakes up and hits the powerband at 3k. normal driving you probably wouldn't even notice its the 6.2 until you roll into the higher rpms.

bb is definitely going on the shopping list.

Another option for you is a cam swap. I tow a 7000 lb camper with our 2012 6.2L XL Denali and swapped in a Cam Motion Stage 2 truck cam. Much less hunting in/out of 4th now. Mine's a 3-bolt cam but if you want to keep the VVT, I'm told that the Texas Speed truck cam will do you right. I also agree with James that keeping it in 4th is just fine. I tow at 65 around here, and when I tow with our 2007 6.2 that still has its stock cam, I keep it in 4th if it's hunting. Both rigs have BB tunes and I love them.

3.73s are what the 2500s have and the NHT pick up trucks. This allows the 2500 Suburbans to tow over 9,000 pounds and for the NHT pickups to tow over 10,000 pounds. Your tires makes it necessary to go down to 4.10s for the same effect. My daughter's NHT has 3.73s but with 35s they're acting more like 3.42s. It'll get 4.10s or 4.30s someday.
Are the axles from the 2500 trucks direct bolt ins to same year tahoe's? If Ave a 2019 Tahoe LT, and want to go from 3.42s to 3.73.

i would love to cam, i have seen the texas speed and know they can really open up the l92 heads on these but i come back to the ca smog situation. at least i know with gears there's no way it could flag anything.

Manual locking into 4th is fine and thats what ive done for years but always felt like the truck should have come with 4:10 from factory, highway rpm not towing would be a no issue with the 6l80.

how does your cam affect your torque curve? you running stock stall converter?

Yup, makes sense.

I'm running a billet converter with a stronger lockup clutch, but it's the factory stall spec. Works great. I haven't put it on a dyno but I don't think I've lost anything on the low end at all, and as the RPMs build it's a beast. We often pull our camper over a stretch of I-64 through West Virginia and there is one long pull (of many) that's 7-8% for a couple of miles. With the stock cam, I would have to dip into 2nd to keep 40 mph at the top. With this cam, I can roll in 3rd and keep 55-60, no problem.

Thanks! I figured it was the 8.25 but need to know before I buy the ring and pinion. It's all pretty much stock but with 275/60/20 tires which doesn't help.

Trailer gross is 7500 but it tall af and is a parachute behind me. I'm unfortunately in the ****** land of California so tuning is out the window now.

I'm thinking 4.10 should give me the boost I'm looking for and keep Normal highway cruising rpm reasonable.
Put a tranny cooler on it at the very least! 410 is a big step..will definitely get it moving! My truck has 3.73s..very common option. I had to replace the transmission due to heat..yes I have a tow package. My guage never goes over 180 in texas heat now. Whaf ever you decide You will need some kind of tune for your speedo. Remember it takes energy to make energy! Buying fuel has to SUCK in California.
