New Owner - '06 Yukon Denali

I've been reading through the forums for some time... I actually own an older '99 Yukon also which I'm going to sell (I think

Anyway - just wanted to say hello. I found an '06 Denali, blue/green w/ the GMC 20s. I LOVE it! 100k miles - but who cares!? If something breaks I'll fix it.

With that said I do have a few questions... bare with me - I'm no expert. I learn as I go.

• I def want to take the 20s off during winter - they are in perfect shape and want to keep them that way. As far as winter wheels... does it matter if I go with a 17" wheel setup - or is better to stick w/ 20" since that's what's on there. Didn't know if switching back and forth with sizes would cause more wear and tear for any reason??

•*If anyone has any suggestions for winter wheel setups please let me know. Right now I have no idea. I have a set of 20s from the '99 - they're chrome, but look like shit. I was thinking about blasting them and putting some of that plasti dip on them?

• I know how forums work - but haven't had much luck searching. If anyone has any iPod hookup how-tos that would be awesome! I know it's pretty simple - but it's always good to follow something. If nothing else, I'd really like a radio removal guide of some sort. Also looking for the latest and greatest iPod hookup options (cheaper the better).

Looks great! I love the wheels and the slight drop it has from the factory. I want that on mine!

No, it does not matter if you go with a 17" wheel set up. It won't cause any more wear and tear. Swapping them out in the winter will probably keep the OEM 20's looking better in the long run. Since you have some extra 20's, just use those. That way you don't have to go buy more wheels. Get some good winter tires for them and you should be good to go.

There are many different ipod inputs that you can get. I am sure someone will chime in on that. Removing the radio is a piece of cake. You just pop the bezel off around the radio. Make sure steering wheel is all the way down. Also, put the gear selector in 1st. Careful when pulling it out because the hazard switch can scrape that extra-delicate soft touch grey paint off.

Welcome bud. The vehicle itself, the unique color, and rare rims looks GREAT!

1) The rim size honestly does not matter for your winter wheels setup and won't cause any issues. A lot of people go with smaller 17-18" wheels for winter to get more sidewall on the tire.

2)If you experience a lot of snow during the winter, I would try to find a factory rim used on CL or something wrapped in some Blizzak DM-V1 tires which are the best winter tires you can get.

3) I'd go with an aftermarket double din pioneer screen. You can get them for a few hundred bucks online and many of them have ipod options when you purchase the additional ipod cable. I had one in my 08 Tahoe and it worked great.

GL with the vehicle and enjoy that 6.0L!!

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe I'll look into what I can do about the 20s from my '99 looking so bad. The previous owner didn't take care of them - so they're peeling like crazy. I hate to throw rims that look so bad on the new ride - even if it is winter.

I figured the dash was a piece of cake. Thanks for the diagram! That will help. I'm thinking I might just go with a DD that has built in Bluetooth and Aux. I don't see why I'd spend upwards of $200 for the Aux only. One question I do have for those that have installed DDs - do you lose any of the rear entertainment features? I saw that asked in another thread but it wasn't answered. I want to keep everything as is, other than adding Bluetooth and Aux.

I live in OH - we get a decent amount of snow - but with the AWD I'm not worried. I guess I'll look at what I can find for the extra 20s I have.

After looking into it a bit more - I'll prob go the DD route. Looks much better and more functional.

Yes, you do lose the rear entertainment features. DVD player will still work, you just won't be able to hear through all of the speakers unless you splice the audio output wires into your new headunit. I think you can buy modules to make the steering wheel controls, onstar and vehicle chimes working though.

During the winter months I usually just grab a bucket of warm water and rinse off the rims to keep the salt away
