Finally got a chance to actually drive the Yukon and saw more that I hated than loved. Looks like a previous owner liked his music more than he liked cleaning; wires run everywhere, holes drilled (poorly) in the rear doors (I guess for tweeters), small amp tucked under dash, but oddly enough, all with stock nav radio...and NOT stock overhead dvd, some cheap looking aftermarket unit. Nasty carpet all through and cracked seats up front, but could probably clean the rears to my satisfaction. Oh, and I've got to tear off a slightly crooked dash kit!
Trying to weigh cost and time of fixing and replacing stuff versus scrapping this option and looking for another. Bare minimum, I'd want to replace the front seat covers, all carpet, and headliner, clean all other seats and look for a factory overhead screen.
So how do I decide where to draw the line between "fun project truck" and "not worth the trouble"? I pretty much decided against it yesterday, but the more I think about it, the more I'm reconsidering.
New front seat covers (can I even get the two tone?) $
New carpet (or pro cleaned) $240+
New headliner $?
Do I find a factory overhead DVD or aftermarket for a bigger screen? I know some integrate with factory stuff.
Asking $6950 for a '05 XL Denali with 158K. I'm sure I can negotiate down, but don't know how much.
Experienced opinions?
This is all barring a once-over from an actual mechanic. If nothing's wrong there, I'll still plan on a $200-$300 fluid change and tune up.
