Hello all, I've always wanted a 2wd 2dr tahoe, and I finally bought one. Living in okc I had to go to ft. Worth tx. To get it but it was worth it. Now that I've got it I've been lurking around and it seems these trucks had certain problems over the years. Would the experts please tell me what to replace or upgrade? Also others please chime in on what systems worked best for you. All info will be greatly appreciated :roflbow:

I appreciate the reply and that's a great sticky. The forum should force newbies to read that sticky, IMO. :) the problems that you mentioned that we're fixed before I bought it was the sagging doors. Problems the sticky mentioned that I don't have (knock on wood) is the slave CD player, 4l60e, & the intake gaskets, but it only has 108k, so I guess I should put some money back for those possible set backs? Now the problems you mentioned I have is a ripped leather drivers seat, I'll deal with it for now.

Now the problems that the sticky didn't mention what I was thinking the thread would mention was a cracked dash, not only is my 98 really bad my fathers 96 full size pickup is cracked. Another is the possible spider injection. It acts like it doesn't want to start every time, but barely does. And last but not least I thought these vehicles were notorious for having spongy brakes? I know my truck doesn't stop on a dime.

The reason I'm posting all this is because I'd rather replace all this stuff now while I know about it & I have the money verses paying for someone else's damage because I couldn't stop in time or god forbid I couldn't make it to the emergency room because it didn't want to start that day, etc..
:sorrysign:to go there

So do You guys think I have legitimate concerns?

Overrall, these vehicles are very solid. As with any vehicle you can run into problems if it is not properly maintained. I would suggest changing all the fluids and plugs and having an inspection done by a mechanic you trust.

Dash cracking will happen to any vehicle parked in the sun every day without protectants or shading. You could just buy a dash mat or get a dashboard from a junkyard really cheap.

I would personally not replace anything mechanically unless it is needed or time to replace according to the maintenance schedule. As far as brand of products, I use either Moog or GM OEM parts.

Enjoy the ride and don't stress the small stuff.
