I just put a deposit down on a 2015 Yukon XL SLT. It has 54,350 miles on it. 4x4 with the open road package. I haven't actually seen it yet as it is about 3hrs away from me at a dealer in Tampa Fl. I was planning on ordering a '21 diesel Suburban, but I was told it would be a 6 month wait for that and I'm a little leary to get a first model year anyways.

I'm trading in my 2021 Nissan Titan XD pickup. It sounds crazy since I purchased that new only 4 months ago, but the back seat, although it's a crew cab, is too small for us with 2 baby seats and a dog. I wanted something more family friendly and I never tow more than about 6k so the Yukon should handle that just fine.

Are there any things I should look for when I go this weekend to test drive and finalize the purchase of the Yukon? Dealer only sent me a short video of it, there are no pictures on their website since it was only traded in a day ago.

lifter ticks ( especially on cold starts, or even hot )
Trans shuttle shifting or studdering ... most describe this as driving on rumble strips...that is a sign the torque convertor is failing ( those years are known for that)

other than that, just your general electronics having bugs...try everything sitting and while driving

If it comes with 3.08 gears it is rated to tow 6,000 pounds maximum with a GCWR of 12,000 pounds. If it has 3.42 gears, it will be rated to tow 8,000 pounds with a GCWR of 14,000 pounds.

The RPO sheet in the glove box will have the codes, GU4 for 3.08s and GU6 for the 3.42s.

Can you get hold of the service records? If you can view the CarFax, you can see where it was serviced and if you call and kindly ask, they usually email them to you.

There was an early 2015 and a 2015.5 made after around April of that year with more features like the remote tailgate.

Make sure the AC blows cold, they had issues early on with the condensers front and rear. There were also issues with buffeting in the cabin, but by now these have been addressed; it was caused by not enough adhesive in the roof bows.

If it has a yellow gas cap, the engine is FlexFuel and can burn any mix of ethanol. E85 is like cheap race gas, those motors pick up 26 horsepower and about the same amount of torque, fun stuff, the motors love it.

GM put a thermostat on the transmission which kills them by about 100K miles. "Flip the Pill" and change the fluid every 40K or so and it will go 200K plus. We see those 6-speeds go three and four hundred thousand miles all the time with regular service.

It does have the 3.08 gearing which is the only thing I'm a bit disappointed with. My truck now is rated for 12,800lbs towing although I never towed more than about 6500 with it, it was nice to know I could tow pretty much whatever I wanted. The build date on this one is 12/22/2014. I did just receive a video from the salesman showing the remote tailgate so it does have that.

I see on the carfax that the AC system has been serviced 3 times so I'm wondering if there's an issue with that. I'm working on getting the previous service records now.

I was able to get most of the service history on the vehicle from the 4 different dealers / shops it's been at over the years. The rear AC lines were replaced and the rear ac had a "service kit" done to it. I'm assuming it was leaking as it was recharged twice before that repair was done. Then the front compressor and condenser were replaced at 50k miles. So it seems that the AC system is new. That's a relief for me being in Florida.

Carfax has it listed as a 1 owner vehicle, however, it states is was sold at 32k miles from a GM dealer. I'm wondering if it was a lease that was purchased by the same owner so it qualifies as 1 owner even though it was sold twice? I'm just nit picking at this point. I'm debating on if I'll be purchasing an extended warranty or not.

Here's a few pictures. Picked it up yesterday and drove it 180 miles home for the first trip with it. It runs and drives great, seems to have no issues other than the sunroof weather stripping on 1 side was hanging off. They told me to get it fixed locally and they'll pay the bill. Super comfortable and our 4 year old loved the dvd player. I rolled the dice and did not purchase a warranty for it. I didn't want to deal with aftermarket and since it was a Dodge dealer I bought it from I could not get it certified. Hopefully nothing major goes wrong!

Very nice. Welcome to Clown Town. You'll find a lot of people here know a lot about these things and are happy to help. Get that strip fixed quick, Especially in FL. A leaky roof will dampen your day for sure. "We'll pay the bill." Good luck. Hope its in writing.
