Hey all,
I Recently picked up a 98 Tahoe (1500) as a second vehicle. Got a steal on it but it really needed at first... After replacing the stereo, radiator, u-joints, brake lines, tires, an entire A/C overhaul (not fun...), auto tranny and g-box fluid changes we took it out on the beach this weekend, and wouldn't you know it- the 4WD is clickin & popping.
Everything worked ok at first, but then it started making loud noise above 3 or 4 MPH- sounded kinda like a bad C/V joint sounds when you accelerate a fwd car around a corner- except this noise was constant and didn't change with steering. Then the 4wd switch lights went dead, it wouldnt change modes, and the "service 4wd" light popped on. After I got it off the beach I ended up pulling the x-fer case fuse and when I put it back in the svc light was out, the 4wd switch lights worked, and I could finally get it back into 2-hi for the run home.
So doctor(s)... how bad is it?
