turned on my A/C for the first time since the fall and nothing happened. Blower works on all speeds, plenum door shifts but when A/C button is on the compressor does not engage. Haven't had time tonight to check anything out yet but is there a relay somewhere? I'll get the test light out and start poking around. Also is there a low level switch or something that might just mean I need more refrigerant? This is the first time it has sat out all winter with some severe temp changes, is it possible thru expansion and contraction I might have a cracked seal or o ring. Any help would be appreciated, I've never really done much with A/C on any vehicle. Thanks Brian

compressor does not engage......... meaning the clutch??? sounds like low freon, but way to hard to tell. AC fixes are always expensive as hell!

they are several pressure switches any of which can tell the pcm not to engage the compressor. If it has not engaged at all since you first try you should be concern with a low refrigerant level. if it started and then disengaged shortly afterwards then definitely low refrigerant. try adding a can or two. if it fails to work I can walk you thru the system for troubleshooting.

Everyone would be doing themselves a big favor by making sure the AC compressor is run every few weeks even if you don't need it. By running the compressor you circulate the oil and seal conditioners and potentially discover problems before they get real expensive.

The challenge can be finding a warm enough day when the AC will run if you live up north. Below a certain temp (~50F?) the compressor will not cycle.
The AC compressor should cycle during defrost (if it's warm enough outside) so many of us don't have to make a special effort, just use defrost occasionally instead of the settings that don't include defrosting.

my defrogers ( yea thats right frogers lol) work at least i dont think ive had a problem with them. i tried to add refrigerant. it seemed like it went in as the can got empty but the pressure in the lines never went up. the clutch doesnt seem to engage but with my power probe i can turn it on and it did engage?????? so im lost as to what it is.

defrost also activates the compressor to dry the air quicker in addition to the heat. If it is not leaking out I would say your system is completely empty.

ok I have searched for this and cant find the real problem and didnt want to start a new thread in fear of bashing. :lol2:

when I turn my a/c on in the morning or sometimes even in the afternoon, the compressor doesnt get power (I know this because my e-fan doesnt kick on) after diving for a few minutes compressor kicks on and system works fine (gets real cold) this is a hit and miss problem sometimes it does this and sometimes the a/c works with no problems. I have pushed the button for a/c to turn it of and on numerous time and sometimes that does it sometimes it doesnt. So what I am asking is, could this be the a/c controls in dash?
