Bought an appradio and did the install last week. Worked fine until all of a sudden it quit outputting sound. I had the gmos 04 and metra swc installed as well. Radio still functions just fine but no sound. I got pissed and pulled it and all aftermarket harnesses, then reinstalled the old unit. When I pulled it there was a ground wire that had come loose, but I didn't think too much about it then. Too pissed to think clearly. I assumed that if the ground was loose somewhere that the radio would drop dead, not quit sounding off.

Even weirder I could hit the onstar button on the steering wheel and it would fire right up.

Another thing I've noticed is there's this buzzing noise coming from the rear hatch roof. There's a mic located there just like the one above my head up front. Seems like the buzzing is from there.

Any tips would be appreciated. I'm lost. IF the radio behaves now that I've reconnected everything I'm gonna cut the center brace from the back of the unit so this thing will fit right. I fear that the pressure of being forced into that too shallow hole has caused a short in one of the pigtails - but they don't look harmed. If that metal brace is cut out will the dash not sag? That's what a friend who does body work is afraid of.

Are you sure that the ground isn't for the factory amp? I am not very familiar on those trucks though.

I'm not positive either. I didn't do the original install. Could a loose ground cause the sound to quit?

If that ground is related to the factory amp it can definitely cause the sound to quit.

Ok. I'll take a look and see about grounding elsewhere. Would it allow it to run fine for a while though? Seems like that's one of those things that become instantly apparent. Just doesn't make sense. Thanks for the help. Where's a good place to ground a stereo in an 03 Yukon?

You can tap into the other grounds. So the wire was not hooked up right from the beginning or it came loose? Another possibility is that the factory fuse to the amp is blown.

It came loose. There was the black ground from the gmos, black ground from radio, and black ground from the swc interface. I spliced them all together last night as I was cleaning up the connections. This is how we had it originally, and one of the wires came loose. I noticed it when I went to remove the aftermarket harnesses and a wire nut dropped out of the dash. That's when I saw one was dangling. Upon reconnecting them I spliced them again then sealed with heat shrink.

And the amp seems fine. Once I reconnected all the factory stuff it sounds just like before. Can even feel the pissant sub fire under the console. I'll have to hook the new unit and harnesses back up and report back. I hope that the loose wire caused the issue, I just don't know how.
