No start issue

So today I go to start the rig and nothing,full power cranks but won't turn on. I have a 97 tahoe lt 5.7.
The truck ran fine two days ago no issues or warning lights no driving signs of failure to come. I ran to HD on Sunday noticed the gas was low parked it figured I fill up in the morning. Morning comes I jump into my saab being lazy knowing it was full. Today I figured I'd fill up and just crank crank crank. I dumped 2 gallons of gas in since my driveway sits in a bit of an angle and still nothing. So i hear the pump coming on and sprayed some starter fluid down the intake and she trys to start but doesn't come on. I know its a fuel issue and have a fuel rail gauge but can't find the connection to test the pump for pressure. Also I just replaced the pump about 4 months ago and it has been quiet that I can't even hear it. Now I hear the whine.
What are your thoughts bad pump? Possibly a clogged fuel filter?
These are the only two things I can possibly think is wrong and praying its just the filter.
Anyway if someone can point me to were the fuel valve is I can get at it in the morning.

Did you clean all the sediment out of your tank when you replaced you left fuel pump?

How empty do you think your tank was when you parked it?

To answer your question i no I didn't clean the sediment nor changed the filter. Some back round bought this rig for 500 PO had it sitting for 6yrs then decided to let it go to clear out space in the garage.
Truck had a bad fuel pump when purchased PO said he replaced it prior to storing away and it was shot after sitting he did tell me he cut out a hole under the seat which I used to replace myself which only lasted a week it was a cheap $40 pump I got didn't want to dump money until I drove her around some. After the second which was 160 now I'm having this issue. PO said he tried dropping the tank and the bolts just spin and don't release the straps I tried the 1st time and he was right so I've been using the hole under the seat.
Now I probably have about 3-4 gallons in the tank. Maybe I can remove pump out gas and clean from the top what do u suggest on cleaning out? Also gonna just change out filter while I'm at it.

You likely have a bunch of sediment in your tank that is fouling your fuel system. If you just swap the pump, you’ll probably be replacing it again soon as the sediment will still be there.

I personally would consider cutting the tank straps, drop the tank, cut out the bolts and find a way to replace the straps and the stripped/broken weld nut. This will let you rinse out your tank and get that sediment out.

If that’s not your cup of tea, I would try and get as much fuel out of your tank that you can using a manual fluid pump. I would then fill it 1/4 full with water and then pump it out again with a manual pump. I say manual so you don’t run the risk of igniting fuel vapors with an electric pump or vacuum. After removing the water, you should have very little risk of fuel vapors so then I’d get a shop vac and try and vacuum out as much sediment as you can. Might need to get a hose and spray it in to get the sediment to where the shop vac can get it. Then I’d let it dry and replace the pump and filter.

Again, that’s what I would do. Others may have a different opinion.

Thanks due to the weather in Chicago land area I might have to post phone this job till spring being winter is around the corner and its pretty crappy around this time. That plan seem legitimate and simple besides the removal of the tank.
For now I may just try and clean it out through the man-made hole underneath the seat and try to get as much out as possible once the weather turns I can get at the tank and possibly just replace if its caked with debris if not clean it out.

Having a career in environmental health and safety im pretty sure the rinse water will need to be collected and contained for disposal.

Hmmmm, maybe....:secret:

If you are really going through fuel pumps that fast I’d look at the wiring.... maybe something isn’t grounded properly but for sure buy an a/c delco pump, clean tank and filter like wade mentioned.

As an update, I was thinking today of ways to get away from fixing and a light bulb turned on. The rig was at an angle in my driveway so much that the 3 gal of gas i poured in wasn't even touching the pump. I said the hell with it and took my 5 gal tank filled the rig and herd the pump suck up the fuel and she fired right up. Lesson learned for me keep her fueled up.

The rig was at an angle in my driveway so much that the 3 gal of gas i poured in wasn't even touching the pump. I said the hell with it and took my 5 gal tank filled the rig and herd the pump suck up the fuel and she fired right up. Lesson learned for me keep her fueled up.
