^ That's because that is all that will come into the dealer day in and day out. If you started working there in 2002, all you would see is GMT800 vehicles.

That is probably true but there are plenty of problems with every generation of truck but it isn't on everyone. Some people just get a "Friday truck".

Its no different at the body shop. When I started in it, all I worked on was GMT800s, then 07 came around and the 800s dropped off to make way for GMT900s. Now they have dropped off and its mostly K2XX stuff. The older vehicles get fixed at mechanics shops, not at the dealer because most people at that point don't care about having a GM part on it to replace it. You see newer stuff all day because things are still under factory warranty or extended warranty.

This must be why my Burb runs so well for me these days and I have 0 of the problems stated in this thread :D

My lead technician also has an 05 Sierra. 290k and still counting. He's had less repairs than I have. I do drive a little harder than he does :)

The cables consist of three "harnesses" that route throughout the engine bay. I believe its about 2.9 labor hours. It comes out to about $750 after tax.

Hot damn!!!

Guess even battery cables are not battery cables anymore...

They have to go somewhere and guessing a dealership is not willing to cut and splice into a wiring harness.

Unfortunately I have have almost nothing but bad experiences with mechanics at every dealership I have ever been to except one. I can count on one hand how many good mechanics I know of or even have met that work at a dealership.

The only reason that a dealer tech has an advantage is that they have access to info and certain tools that are designed for and written for the certain vehicle that they are working on. That is it. Find a shop that pays for the shared info and a good tech that takes the time to be certified and you will be happy.
