My t-case seems to be leaking around the seam where the rear-facing portion attaches to the main body. It looks like it is held on by a billion bolts, and is sealed with RTV of some sort. Does anyone know if I can replace that seal without pulling the case out of the vehicle? I am probably going to th e"the right stuff" gasket maker unless someone here thinks it's a bad idea. I have the GM service manual exploded diagram and R&R instructions for this thing but it seems to be quite involved. Any hints/tips/tricks/warnings are appreciated!

Ok, I found some decent teardown threads and it is indeed just a silicone gasket. To get the rear cover off you have to take the t-case out. There is also apparently a very common problem of the oil pump wearing through the case, so I will want to prevent/fix that while I am at it.

Does anyone know if you can take the t-case out without dropping the trans?

I do have a hole in my t-case. I ordered a case save kit from cobra transmission and will epoxy the hole shut. Based on my GM service manual, I do not have to drop the transmission to get the t-case out. I ordered my stuff from cobra transmissions, and they even threw in the gasket for the trans adapter because they didnt know if it will fit!

I got a replacement rear bushing and bearing, figured I might as well replace them while I am there since they are prone to failure. I wanted to replace the seal going to the encoder ring but can't find the part, so I guess I'll just inspect it and use it if it looks good, maybe throw some sealant at it if not.

Anything else I should check while I have it out? I know I'm talking to myself here, but it's worth a shot, right?
