2000 Denali. Owned the truck 2 years, 246,000km when i bought it. In the spring the trans was throwing a slip code. Had some money in the bank so i ordered a rebuilt. Did the R+R myself. A few days after new trans install i was on the highway and it would not stay in 4th. Lockup is fine. I can get it in 4th if i manipulate the throttle, seems to float between 3-4 and only 4 if coasting or slowing down.
Rebuilder tells me to do a tuneup and make sure all sensors are good. I got through the winter not leaving town much, did some tuneup stuff, never really worked right. So in the spring before the warranty was up i got hold of the rebuilder and had the trans pulled and dropped it off. He got back to me and said 3-4 clutches gone, band worn. says it looks like it was run with low fluid. I had a shop look at it a week before it was pulled and fluid was fine, shavings in pan, lots of garbage in the filter. So he replaced the clutches, repaired whatever damage.
Had trans re-installed today....
No 1st gear. Shop wants nothing to do with it. I went around the corner and played with the wires on the neutral switch. 1st gear works now. Get on the highway, doing 90, goes in 4th with lockup fine. jump in the left lane with light throttle, take it up to 110km and its staying in 3rd. Have to let off the throttle for it to drop into 4th and it wont stay. $600 later i still have the same problem. I was told when i installed the new trans that i must not have cleaned the cooler out cause the garbage in the filter didnt come from the trans.
Ok.... I spent 20 minutes on those lines, with air and 2 cans of brake cleaner, nothing ever came out. Today i got on the highway 10 minutes after it was installed and its doing the same thing.
By the way, Truck has 267,000km on it now. I had put around 7000 on the new trans. Where the heck did the 3/4 clutches go in 7000kms???!?
Am i into valve body work? I want to fix whatever the issue is before it causes damage again. If its a valve body thing them i may be interested in just buying a complete rebuilt one and i can have it installed. But i dont know what one to order. I see 1998-1999 and 2000+ but im sure mine is some odd year. Or maybe its the TCC solenoid leak issue i keep reading about. 4th not working properly when hot, seems ok cold etc....
Please help, im $2600 into a $1000 trans and my kids are suffering...
