odd clicking noise

ok guys I picked up a 97 with a 5.7 vortec in it. the motor has 43xxx miles on it. It has this odd clicking (almost sorta not like a rocker LOL ) noise. ive never owned a vortec and was wandering if u guys may be able to point me in the rite direction as to what It may be.

Need a little more info like if it's constant, happens when you give it gas, and/or what part of the engine it is coming from. What gas are you running? Could be engine pinging from low octane but can't be sure.

also, how fast of clicking. Is your a/c on when doing it or is it constant? Driving or idling, vary with rpm's?

ok sorry I've been inactive of a bit (sick lil one ) . the clicking noise is a very steady sound. it makes it at all RPMs. I cant really tell if it speeds up or not as the exhaust drowns it out. also it doesn't matter if its cold or hot it always does it.

get a mechanics stethoscope and probe for the clicking to narrow down its location. even with loud exhaust you can find it.
