Hello Everyone,

I have a 2013 Tahoe PPV 5.3. It's completely stock except for an ECU tune. I'm experiencing a noise from the engine bay that, while it doesn't seem to affect performance, is very annoying. I'm stumped as to what could be causing it, so I'm hoping someone else has had a similar experience and might have some insight!

The noise sounds almost like an exhaust leak at the driver's side collector...almost like a mix between a vacuum leak and an exhaust leak (kinda like valve chatter with air rushing too). The noise happens most often under acceleration, and the "tempo" generally follows the RPM. It's pretty random - cuts in and out without any discernible pattern. Sometimes it's just there for a moment, and at other times it continues on into several gears and beyond. It even changes as the suspension flexed, very odd noise.

I talked to Justin with Blackbear and he thought it might be the Evap Purge Valve clicking, as discussed on this Chevy Cruze forum: http://www.cruzetalk.com/forum/34-gen1-1-4l-turbo/154017-evap-purge-solenoid-clicking.html

But I replaced that component and the noise still persists.

Any "engine noise" that I google for Tahoes, the only result is lifter tick, and that's not what this is. I'll try to get a recording of the noise, but in the mean time, if anyone has any ideas, PLEASE let me know!

take a video with your phone, move the phone around the engine bay area (all over kinda slow) then post it up on youtube and post a link here.

I can’t speak for the OP but I cannot duplicate my noise either in park or doing a power stand. I am confident that it is not an exhaust leak.

I actually suspect the alternator but I can never duplicate it and it is completely random.

I had decided to forget about until it was obvious what it was.
