I just do this one time as a guide on the cars I drive every day to give me an idea how long the oil really last. Or if I want to know if I have a bearing failing or leaking head gasket.

It will not drain the pan pulling the filter off, you will just loose what is in the filter it's self, maybe a little more.

Regardless, there is still no point in changing the filter and not the rest of the oil. But, "To each his own I guess."

I change the oil in everything I own every 3K miles. Never had to do any work to an engine...even my Tahoe that had 207K miles.

And as I stated earlier, I agree with this?

I agree with this too, only reason I decided to get my oil analyzed because I got a vehicle that required synthetic oil (per the sticker) and I’ve heard so many different opinions on how long you can use it I wanted to form my own opinion.

I drove fleet owned trucks (mostly suburbans) for over 30 yrs and we only changed oil every 5,000 miles irregardless of time. In those 30 yrs my SUV never had any engine problems. I used anything they wanted to put in, I could have cared less. I ran the truck 40 hrs a week and it idled most of those hours. Never did any of our vehicles have engine problems. So if our DOT trucks could go 5,000 miles on regular oil, your truck ir SUV can easily do that and changing at 3,000 miles is a waste of oil and your money.
