Hello all,

I am losing oil, but without adding oil just yet, is there any way to tell how much has been lost based on the marks on the dipstick?

02 yukon 5.3 liter flex fuel. It's lost 1 1/2 "dots" on the dispstick over 3000 miles. The frame crossmember under the oil pan is all oily.

Thanks for any info.

I`m not sure about the marks on the dipstick.

But if i wanted to find out how much oil was lost i would just top off the engine with a new quart of oil and when the engine is full you`ll be able to tell how much you lost by what is left in the quart.

THanks, Was trying to avoid that especially if I end up putting too much, then got to drain and do it all over. Was hoping those marks actually corresponded to some quantity of oil.

I remember the owner's manual detailing the estimated amounts by the circles on the stick.... just need to find the it. Try on-line.. I'll look when I get home.
