I noticed a few oil drops from under the rear diff yesterday. I took a few photos and it looks like you can see where it is leaking from the front of the diff. 56K miles on the vehicle, so hopefully the powertrain warranty will cover it. Anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing the leak?

Don't mind all the white specs, I drove through a spilled bucket of paint a month ago...

Looks like a bad pinion seal. Likely got installed poorly when built or it was damaged before install.

Also the paint thing sucks. I cant stand people who do not secure their junk they are hauling. It infuriates me to no end.

what would be the best long-term fix if they try to do just the seal? I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday and they said it would be 2-3 days before they can even look at it...

If they do quality work they will check for play in the pinion bearings and that there are no other factors that could cause premature wear. If all looks good install a new seal and fill with fresh fluid. If they just try to quick flip it back out they will swap seals and send it.

They replaced the seal and topped off the oil, said it didn't need much oil and the bearing didn't have any damage to it. Guess I caught it early. They managed to get to it and get it fixed the next day.
