My wife's 04 Tahoe shows maximum (80 PSI) oil pressure at all times. It runs very well and has been greatly maintained, so I don't fear that it is low, but it is something I'd obviously like to get addressed.

I purchased an OBD Bluetooth adapter and purchased the Torque app for my phone. I love how much real time information it provides, but unfortunately, I can't seem to find a setting for oil pressure.

Anyone know if you can turn the oil pressure gauge on on the Torque app? What would be the best way to address this?

These units are really easy to replace - i did mine in 15 min. Just get a sending unit socket, available at autozone for $8 to ensure you dont damage the the unit itself.

1. depressurize fuel system by removing fuel pump relay in the fuse box in the engine bay then starting the engine (engine will sputter then die)
2. disconnect the top fuel line on the intake manifold using a quick disconnect tool.
3. reach down toward the driver side of the engine block behind the intake manifold to locate the sending unit
4. disconnect the electrical connector w/a flat screwdriver
5. R&R sending unit w/ your ratchet, extension and sending unit socket
6. put everything back and start truck/verify oil pressure on dash - done.

not sure if you can get the app to read out pressure as the sending unit is basically mechanical that converts felt pressure via a resistor to an electrical signal that then displays on the gauge in the dash. AFAIK there is no input to the PCM, which is where your app is drawing the other data.

An easy check. To determine if it's the oil pressure sending unit.

Turn the key to "on" but don't start it.

Is the oil pressure gauge maxxed out?

If so then its most likely a bad sending unit because your engine is not running meaning there is no oil pressure.

Be careful if always go to 80 and do not move you may have to check oil pressure sensor, it happen with my 2006 G25.
