Oil pressure gauge

My 2009 Tahoe oil pressure gauge lower to the line between 40 and 0 which I would think it's 20. It lowers to the 20 mark line at idle but as soon as I give it has it jumps back up to 40 and sometimes a little over the 40 mark. Is this normal? It has the 5.3 in it which switches back and forth from 4 cylinders to 8 cylinders
