Oil question

Hello, I just purchased a 2004 Yukon SLE. It has 155k miles on the 5.3l. Previous owner bought it new and has used Halvoline conventional and Fram oil filters in it. I know that I am going to swap to a different filter but was wondering if it would hurt to swap to a blend or full synthetic or if I should just stick with synthetic. Also what oil filter would you all recommend? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i would use synthetic or syn blend. Get rid of those crappy Fram filters.

Welcome to the forum.

I use only WIX premium filters but trust AC Delco as well. Full synthetic. Oil is blood to an engine and it wants/needs the best for best performance and reliability.

IMO, stay with the same oil type that the previous owner used. Wix filters are considered the gold standard, though it is more important to change your oil and filter every 5k miles max.

i just started using mobil 1 full synthetic. oddly enough ive eaten a 1/2 qt since spring when i did the last oil change. maybe a 1000 miles or so. catch can is still catching oil tho. but not a 1/2 qt.

The oils we have today are so much better than 18 years ago and will work on any high quality oil. Oil filters, Wix, AC are what you want.

On my '04 5.3L I use the longer Wix filter: 51522. NAPA 1522 is the same, made by Wix.

I use 5w30 mobil1 or penzoil platinum both in the high mileage flavor with a mobil1 filter. 255k miles here. No issues here and been running that over 12 months now. I driver her hard and daily
