What is this?

Have not posted much but was cleaning my throtle body today and noticed this hole under where you add oil. I'm not sure what that hole is for but it has threads in it. Am I missing something?

Might be a lift point? If your engine needs to be taken out of the truck

for repairs, they have to have some way to attach to it and remove it.

I doubt its a lift point on the valve cover, it would rip off with all the weight. Usually you lift from the block! Its probably for some type of acc. bracket that isnt available for your model. Im sure those valve cover are mass produced and used on many different applications!

Do you think it's some type of valve cover breather?

---------- Post added at 12:01 AM ---------- Previous post was Yesterday at 11:15 PM ----------

I looked on youtube and saw other 5.3 engines with the same hole, so I know it's common but I still don't know what it does.

Anyone?

Like streetscraper said its probably the same valve cover for other models. Maybe a bracket bolts up to it when that motor is in an Express van.

Don't worry about it. If its not leaking oil then it's not drilled all the way through.

You should use it to mount a mini camping stove or maybe one of those little battery powered hand held fans to help cool engine.

Prob almost everyone has this on there valve cover. It is obviously not a hole just a threaded spot for a bolt. Yes I would like to see what the 18 year old shade tree kid at the oil change shop with his adjustable bolt stripper (crescent wrench) has to say. This motor is in many different vehicles that have many diff options. They are going to make 1 valve cover to fit all. Hell its in the front wheel drive impala SS. The only way to maybe get an answer to to go to a dealer and pop the hoods on all 5.3s.
