OnStar -- Keep it or dump it?

I went to the OnStar website ( www.onstar.com ) and it seems the blue button will get you connected to a sales advisor even if your OnStar service has been discontinued. So, if you're in an accident, your air bags have deployed, and you're dying, just press the blue buttom with a valid credit card in your hand -- provided it isn't broken -- and the sales advisor should be able to get your account activated. Whether the other buttons will be activated in time to save your life, I just don't know. The sales advisor just takes sales orders and can't get you connected to anyone outside their cubicle.

I'm keeping mine because when I'm on vacation I use it constantly. I'm retired and I take month long driving vacations.

I don't make reservations until the end of day...don't know where I will be staying.

Onstar finds/connects with the hotel/motel, I make the reservation, Onstar downloads directions to the place.

But, if I only drove it around town I doubt I would renew.

this is how much i paid for one year on star and 6 months destination and directions package and 100 minutes And allowed my other minutes to carryove..

did u know you can use the GMC ap to start the car etc? hell you can even update your facebook status with onstar AND get stock quotes weather etc-- and you have the advisor . for that amount, i say its defintely worth it.

i renewed my xm radio too-- then they got rid of some channels and redid their station list-- SONS OF BITCHES! still better than radio though and i love having 30 presets and ability to listen to all sports music and comedy

i got deals on both of them i think 77 for xm plus tax came to 86ish-- that was a no brainer

I always renew my onstar on both my vehicles. You can't put a price on peace-of-mind. We do a lot of traveling through no-man's land texas. Alot of times, no cell service, or no visual landmarks to describe where you are. So I say for the emergency response it is worth it.

But, the phone minutes are freakin usless. What a ripoff. I still have minutes from when i renewed.

Experiences with Onstar:
1) It "dialed" per-say, and it kept ringing like nobody was answering.
2) It didn't even work after I got hit by a drunk driver.

Therefore, I say it sucks.

My account expired on 05-26-11, and today I received a letter from OnStar stating I could sign up for $12.95 a month plus taxes for a one-year time period, or $149.00 plus taxes for a one-year time period for the Safe & Sound Plan. Hey OnStar, hear that shredder spewing out little pieces of paper next to my desk? It's your letter.

I'm thinking of doing a low-cost modification to my Tahoe. I think I'll get some black tape and cover up all of the OnStar stuff at the bottom of the rearview mirror. shyco:

I have it but I pay about $149 a year for it and that is all I will pay. I also get about $3 off my insurance per month. In reality the real cost is about $100 a year or almost a tank of gas.

I had in disconnected in my Impala for a while and it was dead completely. In Utah cell phones don't work in some places and if you are in an accident bad enough to trigger onstar then you might not be able to get to your cell anyway.

I helped out a few motorists on the way home one snowy night on I80 outside of Salt Lake City. It was around 6 inches of snow, Denali performed flawlessly and its weight kept it planted. Three people ended up in a ditch so I called onstar as I passed them. I wasn't about to stop on the highway in the middle of nowhere in a heavy snow storm.
