Outer tie rods 02 Yukon XL 2wd

Hello my fellow yukonians. 1st time posting, so bare with me on this. This site has been nothing but great help and great ideas. thanks. I have a 2002 GMC Yukon xl 2wd, I have not seen anyone with this except on 4wd models. my outer tie rods are loose and need to be replaced . they look like this:


dealer is asking an arm and leg. does any one have a site or supplier that I can get this for cheap or reasonably priced. no major things done to this ruck but stereo mods only. looking to make a lot of changes but all with time .

2wd and 4wd dont matter, and your replacements arent going to look exactly the same but will work the same

Rock Auto has them listed around 30 bucks apiece

Agreed. Rock Auto is the place. I have to ask though, what do you mean by "loose". Describe the looseness and who checked them and how? Too many times I hear that term and no one seems to want to or be able to describe what they mean by that statement. I know some parts get replaced when they are not needed.

Your pic is of both ends. The Moog Inner is ES3488 for $27.79 and the outer is ES3493T for $30.79. Moog is great quality.

When I say loose, the ball socket moves freely. Plus my rf tire is wearing out my tire. I like the idea and price, but what kind of feeling will I have with replacing with this type of set up and what can I expect besides a lighter wallet.

Well, you don't have a choice of set up. You get the tie rods in 2 pieces and screw them together. The outer tie rod is supposed to have free movement as far as the threaded ball socket goes when it comes to flexing at different angles when you turn but want to be tight as you push in and out into the ball socket cup area. The same play would be bad at the inner end with in and out play. You want free pivoting movement but no in and out excessive movement. Best to watch them work as you lay under the front end and rock the steering back and forth and watch movement, with the truck on level ground.
