I do know I've seen them at Best Buy where they trasnmit to a specified FM radio station. But I'd ask a professional installer if it can't be wired to the radio just as the original...don't see why not!
Yes...the original 7" isn't near big enough for me...I mean...

You will need an auxiliary input adapter or do the aux input mod in order for the audio to play through the factory radio. Personally, I would go with an aftermarket dvd player in dash with a bigger overhead. The factory radio in these trucks are sub-par at best, I'm actually surprised any of them are still functional with as many as I've seen with locked up changers. Yeah, you will need interface modules for the aftermarket to work like the factory one but you will have a much better unit with many more features than the factory unit.
I don't know if your truck has the factory dvd changer in console for the overhead monitor or not, but it will NOT work with the aftermarket overhead. There might be an aftermarket solution to make it work but I'm not sure.
However you decide to do it; You can use an aftermarket dvd player or screen in dash and that will allow you to have either dvd/screen combo in the overhead location or just a plain screen that operates from the in dash.

Hey Magic, thanks for the input.
Im keeping my audio stock as much as possible, I have the stock touch screen navi, added a c2a gm24 for my subs & a isgm575 for Iphones or smartphone playbacks.
dvd changer? i have a 6 disc cd changer. The dvd player is in the unit on the overhead.

With the isgm575, i could use that as my aux since it has 2

Your advice is tempting, im sure alot of people on here done it that way, but i wouldnt be able to concentrate driving and plus less hassle with the police lol

I understand, since you already have all of the integration then I would stay on the route you are on. I'm just one of those guys who mods EVERYTHING, including my 69 GTO (staying as stock as possible, but the customizer in me won't allow it to be completely original). I have the same dvd unit in my XL, that dinky little screen must go soon. The wife an I had our first (and probably only) child last April so as soon as she is old enough to turn the car seat front facing I will be replacing mine as well.
