Does anyone know if you'll get some sort of transmission overheating indicator on an 05 Tahoe? I'm trying to research why my reman 4L60e just failed on me at less than 10k miles. Thanks.

If yours doesn't have the trans temp gauge in your cluster there should be a light that comes on in your gauge cluster that says A/T temp. It'll be orange in color. Also I thought the 2005 and 2006 SUVs were changed to the 4L65E trans. At least that's what my 2006 Denali XL has in it. Just went though a gnarly trans situation. Bought a remanufactured one and the reman trans was altogether bad from the start. Ended up having my original factory 4L65E trans rebuilt. Runs like a champ now. Anyways check your RPO codes on the sticker in your glove box. If it says M32 under RPO code than your truck came stock with the 4L65E trans.

I'm relatively certain mines a 60, but I'll read up. It looks like my reman was bad too. Less than 7000 miles or so. Planetary gear assembly chewed itself up, or at least that's what it sounded like based on what I've read.

I hadn't even put 500 miles on the reman trans yet and it went. Piece of junk. Just out of curiousity, where did you buy your reman trans from?

If no temp gauge then you just get a dummy light like bigbeardenali said. IIRC it will trip when it hits 210 or 215 degreesF. I just use my Torque app with blutooth OBD2 reader to keep track. I've gone as high as 207 going up a long steep grade in middle of summer (115 degrees ambient) without the dummy light coming on, but it sure made me nervous. Make sure you have proper fluid type and quantity even "new" reman...I got a reman put in and discovered it came already low on fluid, needed another quart to bring it into proper range...that would have failed early if I didn't check as soon as I got it home....bastards.

I went through Certified Transmission. It was the planetary gear assembly that failed at less then 4000 miles, not 7000 like I had originally said. In spite of the failure and my $240 tow bill from BFE, the warranty process was completely painless for me, thank goodness. Failure happened on Saturday, and I had the truck back by Friday. They were quick to send a new unit to the shop I took it to, and they were quick to pay the shop owner for his work. I know their trans failed to begin with, but I feel good about Certified Transmission and would still recommend them. Their reman comes with a 3 year 100k mile warranty.

I think that's what happened with the remanufactured trans unit i bought as well. Still battling my seller as he has gone back on all his word despite the fact that I had a full warranty. Once I got my original stock trans down to the trans shop I took it to to get fixed, he had it completely rebuilt in two days. It was crazy! But I'm happy with it.
